We are ending 2023 in a tough spot. There are dark forces everywhere. It feels like this year we’ve become more comfortable than ever as a society to give into our fear of the other. Othering begets violence and more othering, and we’re seeing this play out everywhere. It’s normal to respond to all of this with a sense of nihilism about the world we live in and the powers that be. But people have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of time, and so we must fight on. I’m excited for 2024, I hope it’s better than 2023, and if it’s not … I hope we can still find some of that childlike wonder in ourselves and follow the silver rule.

Last night I put out a small project I quickly built called NFT 2 MP3, a way to download mp3 files from Music NFTs. I was putting together an offline playlist on Apple Music for some upcoming travel and wanted to download some Music NFTs and was really surprised to find that there wasn’t an easy way to do this using any of the existing web3 platforms.

Gulshan 1 is the neighborhood where I grew up in dhaka. it's a place that exists in a constant state of flux, a shifting hyperreality that is never quite the same from one visit to the next. my upcoming release On Gulshan 1 is dedicated to these fragmented memories and how I relate to it living in nyc today.

I’m currently working on a 4 track EP (not as poolnoodle93) so I’ve been thinking of the future of poolnoodle93 in 2023 … and I think it’s for this kind of thing. It’s fun, it requires me to really get rid of any perfectionist tendencies and just put something out there in an extremely short amount of time. It’s also extremely low stakes. It feels like taking a walk.

It is finally the last day of 2022 and we are firmly in the anthropocene, which feels less like an “era” at this point and more like the point - “the end of history”, “there is no alternative”, all that good stuff. We’re launching sulfur into space, the technologists have used AI to outsource creation, everyone is being cringe as hell on the TL, it’s been pretty rough out here. So what is the Last Man to do but Post? And what better content to start posting on the last day of 2022 than my favorite things I consumed this year, seems nice and wholesome.
